"Support for individuals and/or families, irrespective of race, creed or culture, in hardship or need, because of poverty, deprivation and/or disadvantage."
Whilst we will consider funding an application which meets the above policy, we will prioritise applications which fit one or more of our Funding Priorities, outlined below.
Funding Priorities
Group 1: Social Groups
Applications submitted by or on behalf of:
a) Orphans (a child who has lost EITHER both parents OR one parent who was the main bread-winner in the family)
b) Children & Young People under the age of 19 years (particularly those in care or who are carers)
c) Individuals who are Disabled, Incapacitated or Terminally Ill (particularly those who are severely mentally disabled)
d) Single Parents (particularly divorcees and widows/widowers with children)
e) Estranged or Isolated Senior Citizens
f) Individuals with severe medical conditions or their families
g) Ex-Offenders or reformed Drug Addicts or Alcoholics
h) Victims of Domestic Violence and/or Physical or Sexual Abuse
i) Victims of crime, anti-social behaviour and/or terrorism
Group 2: Social Outcomes
Applications which:
a) Provide access to education and/or vocational skills
b) Increase employability
c) Encourage excellence in education, sport and/or the arts
d) Break the cycle of poverty, deprivation and/or disadvantage
e) Improve the quality of life for individuals and/or families who are struggling to maintain a dignified existence and positively engage in society
f) Relieve suffering and give individuals and/or families a new start following an event or period of crisis
Exclusions:
a) General appeals
b) Applications from organisations or formal groups (an organisation or its representative may assist an individual or family to apply for a grant or interest-free loan)
c) Applicants who are not claiming all benefits for which they are eligible
d) Applicants who have received a grant in the last 12 months from Al-Mizan Charitable Trust
e) Retrospective Funding (any item or cost which has already been spent prior to approval of the grant)
f) Expenses relating to the practice or promotion of religion
g) Clearance of debt including rent and council tax arrears
h) Fines or Criminal Penalties
i) University Tuition Fees
j) Gap year projects
k) Immigration Costs
l) Funeral Expenses
m) Gifts (including birthdays and festivals)
n) Holidays (we will consider funding trips for children and/or young people which enrich learning opportunities or very occasionally where a short vacation may serve a medical or social need)
o) International travel
p) Applications for more than £500 (we will consider match-funding requests, where you intend to raise the balance from other sources)
q) Products/Services which contravene the ethos and values of the Trust.
